Highlights

Overview

The Mardi Himal Trek is a stunning off-the-beaten-path adventure in Nepal's Annapurna region, perfect for those seeking a quiet, scenic, and culturally rich trekking experience. Tucked away just east of the more popular Annapurna Base Camp trail, this relatively new route leads you through dense rhododendron forests, peaceful villages, and alpine landscapes with breathtaking views of snow-capped peaks like Mardi Himal, Machapuchare (Fishtail), Annapurna South, and Hiunchuli.

This trek offers a remarkable contrast between lowland subtropical forests and high-altitude panoramas, all within a compact 5–7-day itinerary. Starting from the lakeside city of Pokhara, you’ll ascend through charming villages like Deurali, Forest Camp, and High Camp before reaching the scenic Mardi Himal Base Camp at around 4,500 meters. Along the way, you’ll experience authentic Gurung and Magar hospitality, making this trek not only visually spectacular but also rich in local culture.

Best Time for Mardi Himal Trek – When to Go for Maximum Beauty
The best seasons to trek to Mardi Himal are spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November). During spring, the trail is ablaze with blooming rhododendrons and wildflowers, adding color to the already mesmerizing views. The temperatures are mild, and the skies are generally clear, providing fantastic visibility of the Himalayan peaks.

In autumn, post-monsoon skies offer some of the clearest mountain views of the year, and the stable weather makes trekking more enjoyable and safe. Although the Mardi Himal Trek is accessible year-round, winter treks (December to February) can be cold at higher altitudes, and monsoon season (June to August) brings slippery trails and cloudy skies. For the best combination of scenic beauty and favorable trekking conditions, plan your Mardi Himal adventure during spring or autumn.

Mardi Himal Trek Difficulty – A Rewarding Moderate-Level Trek
The Mardi Himal Trek is considered a moderate trek, making it accessible to both experienced hikers and fit beginners. The trail involves gradual ascents through forests and ridgelines, with the highest point being Mardi Himal Base Camp at around 4,500 meters. While altitude is a consideration, the relatively short trekking duration and slow, steady gain in elevation allow for easier acclimatization compared to other high-altitude treks.

Most days involve 4 to 6 hours of walking, and the terrain, though occasionally steep and rocky, is manageable without any technical climbing. Basic teahouses along the route provide food and lodging, ensuring comfort throughout the journey. Trekkers should be in decent physical condition and prepared for varying weather conditions, especially near High Camp and Base Camp. With the right preparation and a positive mindset, the Mardi Himal Trek offers an incredibly rewarding adventure.
